The inaugural Florence Nightingale Day (FN Day) was launched on October 27, 2018, in Athens, Georgia; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and Columbus, Ohio, with the description published in the March 2019 issue of the AMStat News. The second annual FN Day followed in 2019, with the site in Ohio leading the way. A description of the event, mainly for the financial sponsors, is also available.

The third Florence Nightingale Day was originally scheduled to be in-person, but was eventually moved online due to the pandemic. The event, hosted through Zoom, took place on November 14, 2020. In addition to students from the United States, participants from Canada, Germany, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates also attended the event. The FN Day was also hosted, via Zoom, by the Korean-American Women in Science and Engineering on October 24, 2020, in commemoration of Nightingale’s 200-year birth anniversary and featured a student video competition.

The fourth FN Day was initially planned to be in-person on October 23, 2021, but had to be moved online due to a global surge in covid cases. With the experience of running the event online in the previous year, we were able to advertise more widely, and received registrations from students in 18 US states and 18 countries. This event was co-hosted by a new site at the University of Texas at Dallas, which was planning to host its own in-person event until it was also moved online. In addition, the Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute hosted the FN Day in February 2022 at the University of Toronto.

The fifth Florence Nightingale Day has been projected to take place in several sites, including Cambridge, MA; Columbus, OH; Toronto, Canada; and Vancouver, Canada. The Ohio event will feature a hybrid model, with in-person participations from students in Ohio and a Zoom option for participants from elsewhere.
